Piotr Sulkowski
Principal
Guest Conductor for the Signature Classics
series, Piotr Sulkowski is music director and conductor of the Cracow Opera as well as
music director and conductor of Opera Wildwood Festival in Little
Rock, Arkansas.
Founder and director of the Polish chamber
orchestra Forum Sinfonia, Sulkowski studied at the Academy of Music
in Cracow, receiving degrees with honors in Music Education (1993)
and Theory, Composition, and Conducting (1997). He has received
several scholarships with the Internationale Bachakademie in
Stuttgart, where he participated in conducting courses by H. Rilling
and J.E. Gardinier.
In
1996 he was invited to the Oregon Bach Festival for a master
conducting course combined with concerts. Recipient of the 1995
Creative Award of the President of Cracow for outstanding
achievements in conducting, Sulkowski has performed with Forum
Sinfonia at many national and international festivals, and won 1st
place in the "best performance" category awarded by the Critics'
Chapter during the 2nd Forum of Young Composers.
Sulkowski
has worked with many orchestras at home and abroad (Sinfonia
Varsovia, Cracow Philharmonic, Musical Theatre Roma, and Tupelo
Symphony Orchestra) and since 1993 is also engaged in educational
work. He has conducted the chorus and orchestra of the State
Music School in Cracow and cooperates with music theatres in Poland
(Roma Music Theatre, Gliwice Music Theatre) and in the United States
where he conducted a variety of opera premieres.
